How do I become a member of CAPA?

CAPA is an alliance of paralegal associations in the State of California. To gain CAPA benefits you must be a member a CAPA Member Association.

How do I become a member of a CAPA member association? 

The CAPA website has a list of its member associations. There are hyperlinks to the associations that have websites where you can download membership applications or request membership information.

What are the benefits of membership?

Each CAPA member association has specific benefits for their local association members. In addition, CAPA offers the following benefits to the its member associations of CAPA:

  • Discounts on CAPA conferences;
  • Discounts on local association events and access to job banks and salary surveys through reciprocity between their affiliated associations;
  • Discounted rate for CAPA's California Certification Exam (CCP);
  • Discounted price and access to the Paralegal Guidebook;
  • Medical (and other) Insurance discounts;
  • City Discounts through Working Advantage;

Can non-members attend the CAPA June Conference or its Biennial November Conference?

Non-members can attend the CAPA June Conference and/or Biennial November Conference, but members of CAPA member associations may receive a discount on their registration fees.

How can I become involved in CAPA?

CAPA is governed by a board of directors, which are designated by each of the Association Members. Each member association may designate up to two (2) Directors to serve on the CAPA Board. That Director id required to be compliant wirth BPC 6450. As CAPA is a fully volunteer organization, we rely on many volunteers to participate and contribute to many of the Standing and Ad Hoc Committees appointed annually by the President or the Board of Directors.  If you have an interest to contribute on the State level, reach out to CAPA's President at [email protected].

What is a CAPA affiliate?

CAPA's President communicates with each of the following national associations related to the paralegal profession, their education and certification - 1) NALA - National Association of Legal Assistants-Paralegals, 2) NFPA-National Federation of Paralegal Associations, and 3) AAfPE- American Association for Paralegal Education. Click on their logos on the Affiliate Associations page under the About CAPA menu selection on this Website for more information about these organizations.

The Association Members of CAPA also represent an affiliate relationship for purposes of reciprocity to share their own member benefits, such as attending their local association educational events and conferences.
